November 21, 2007|BRENDA S. EDWARDS

LIBERTY - The city will celebrate the Christmas season through the eyes of a child Nov. 30 when it has its winter celebration.

Business owners, offices and organizations are encouraged to decorate, paint or light storefronts with the theme of a child's Christmas.

Arts and crafts booths, a Santa's workshop and children's store will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the old Corner Hardware Store at the junction of Middleburg and Hustonville streets.

The Casey County Pork Producers Association and Casey County Young Republicans will serve free chili, coffee and hot chocolate at 4:30 p.m.

There will be mule and wagon rides from 5 to 8 p.m. People also are asked to donate a decorated wreath, pie, cake or dessert for an auction at 5:30 p.m. Both events will benefit the Casey County Community Ministries Toys for Tots.

Businesses that donate wreaths are asked to decorate them to represent the business. For example, wreaths can have cars to represent an auto business or money to represent banks. They may be simple or ornate. Wreathes should be dropped off at City Hall by Nov. 26; desserts can be dropped off at City Hall by 3 p.m. Nov. 30.

Community singing and caroling will be 5:30 p.m. during the lighting of a large Christmas tree on the courthouse lawn.

A parade lineup will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the lighted parade through downtown. Santa also will arrive for the parade and pose for pictures after the parade at the corner hardware store.

Visitors are invited to register for free turkey and ham dinners with fixings, valued at $49.99 each. Liberty IGA and Liberty/Casey County Chamber of Commerce are sponsors. Winners do not have to be present to win.
