November 28, 2007

BEREA - Danny Noll scored 19 points to lead four Centre College players in double figures as the Colonels defeated Berea 80-67 on Tuesday night.

Centre (2-1) shot 51 percent from the field to win in its first game following a nine-day layoff.

The Colonels hit eight of 19 shots from 3-point range and 27 of 53 overall.

"We moved the basketball and hit shots, and a lot of it was because of our passing," Centre coach Greg Mason said. "Offensively, things flowed at a good rhythm."

Noll was 7-for-14 from the field, Matt Nestheide scored 18 points, T.C. Thomason had 15 and Thomas Britt had 14 for Centre.

Mason said he was also pleased with the Colonels' assist-to-turnover ratio, which was 17 to 14. Nestheide led the team with six assists.

"We had good decision-making on the floor," he said.

Centre's defense forced 15 turnovers, and Berea (2-5) had only six assists.

"That's a very good sign about our defense," Mason said.

Berea outrebounded Centre 40-35, and the Mountaineers had 22 offensive rebounds. Nestheide and Alex Lloyd led Centre with six boards each.

Mikah Turner led Berea with 17 points.
