Songwriter, Grammy guest in Xmas concert

Winchester singer and songwriter Mary Ann Crane will present "Bethlehem," a Christmas concert, at Macedonia Christian Church on Tuesday night, Dec. 18, at 6:30 p.m.

Her special guest that evening will be Grammy and Dove Award winner J.D. Miller.

"Bethlehem" will feature musical styles including black gospel, southern gospel, ballads, classical, traditional and old carols and bluegrass. Four of the selections will be Crane's original compositions.

Miller, the new minister of music and evangelism at Mount Zion Christian Church in Lexington, also operates a recording studio in Shelbyville. He worked with Bill Gaither's organization for 13 years and was minister of music at Southland Christian Church for 10 years when the Rev. Wayne Smith was pastor.

Miller directs a music evangelism team that recently returned from two weeks in China. He was the producer of Crane's July 2007 release, "Under Your Wings."

Concert pianist Dr. William Cooper of Winchester is Macedonia's choir director and worship leader and will also be participating in this concert. Twelve other musicians will also perform in "Bethlehem."

The concert is open to the public, and admission is free.

"Bethlehem is my Christmas gift to the community," Crane said.

St. James bean supper

St. James C.M.E. Church will have a dinner from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, featuring soup beans, cornbread and slaw, fish sandwiches and dinners and baked goods.

Pastor's anniversary

On Dec. 2, Broadway Missionary Baptist Church, 121 W. Broadway, will celebrate the anniversary of its pastor, the Rev. Samuel U. Peoples, with a guest speaker, the Rev. Melvin Gross.

The morning service will be at 11:15, with dinner immediately following the service

The afternoon service will be at 3 p.m. with Dr. T.H. Peoples Sr.

Christmas program at Epperson church

Epperson First Church of God on Ky. 89 in Clark County will have its Christmas program Sunday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m.
