Coop receives recognition

Lancaster resident and retired United Methodist minister Howard Coop was honored by the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry at a ceremony at the Galt House in Louisville.

Rev. Coop was awarded the rank and order of the Knight Commander of the Court of Honor by the fraternity's governing body the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite which is located in Washington, D.C. He is a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite and of Lancaster Masonic Lodge 104.

Rev. Coop, a prolific writer having authored more than 30 articles for the Scottish Rite national publication, has written a weekly column for the Garrard County News since 1991 and The Interior Journal since 2006. In addition he has had articles published in numerous other publications.

Rev. Coop was minister at the Lancaster United Methodist Church in the late 1950's. Since retirement he and his wife, Catherine, have resided in Lancaster.
