Many teenagers in towns big and small across Kentucky have one thing in common. The are looking for a place they can hang out with friends in a safe drug and alcohol free environment.

A group of students at East Jessamine High School wants to provide just such a place for Jessamine County teenagers with the Eclipse Teen Center.

One of the organizers of the group, Dylan Cartwright said the group is trying to give teenagers a place to have dances on weekends and just hang out with friends.

"We just want to give the youth of Jessamine County a place to come and hang out after school and on weekends, play games and stay off the streets and out of trouble," Cartwright said. "The center would offer dances for middle and high schoolers, a place to lounge or play games and concessions for a quick snack."

Cartwright said the group is asking for assistance from the community to help make the project a reality.

"We are in need of donations from anyone in the community who has furniture, game room furniture, business goods or other things they would like to give," Cartwright said.

The group found a potential location for the center at 319 E. Maple St. but Cartwright said anyone with a building space for rent at a reduced price should contact him.

"The center's ultimate purpose is to help keep teens safe and drug free and off the streets," Cartwright said.
