Construction on the new youth wing of the Clark County Public Library has been delayed because of a soggy winter.Workers had plans to lay the foundation for the Lynne A. Boxley Library for Young People, but heavy rains since mid-December have stalled their work.
"We didn't want a moat, we wanted a foundation," said Julie Maruskin, director of the library. "In an emergency situation, they could pump water out (of the soil), but it wouldn't be a good foundation to last a community through several generations of children."
Maruskin said extra time was built into the construction schedule to accommodate weather delays.
"We prefer to have them wait and be sure they can lay the foundation in the best possible condition," she said. "The delay is not necessarily of any concern."
In the meantime, construction crews have started work on a driveway, which Maruskin said was a significant part of the project.
