January 17, 2008|Nancy Leedy

The football prowess of Lincoln County High School Patriots Dustin Brummett and Ryan Young during the 2007 season did not go unnoticed, with the two seniors being named to the Associated Press All-State second team defense.

The 2007 AP All-State teams, which were selected by media representatives from across the state, were announced last Wednesday.

Brummett and Young were part of the Lincoln County team which reached the Class 5A semifinals this past season and compiled an 11-3 record. The Patriots bowed out of the state playoffs in a semifinal loss to eventual state champion Fort Thomas Highlands.

Brummett, a 5'9" 180-lb. linebacker, was the Patriots' leading tackler for the last two years and had more than 150 tackles this season. He also had one interception, one blocked punt and three fumble recoveries.

Young, a 6'0" 170-lb. defensive back, proved this past season that he could catch the ball on defense as well as offense, leading the area with 11 interceptions. He prevented many more big plays with pass breakups. Young also had more than 80 tackles.

Lincoln had three players named to the AP All-State teams, with offensive lineman Daniel Walls selected as honorable mention. The 6'0" 250-lb. senior, was named third team on The Courier-Journal's All-State teams released in December.

Lone Oak's record-setting quarterback Cory Robinson was voted Mr. Football. Robinson threw for a national record 91 touchdowns and broke the state mark with 5,872 yards passing. Lone Oak went 14-1, advancing to the Class 4A title game.

Robinson received nine of 12 votes. Also receiving votes in the balloting were Boone County running back Cory Farris, Bowling Green wide receiver D.L. Moore and Somerset wide receiver John Cole.

Ty Scroggins of Central and Shawn Berner of Fort Campbell shared Kentucky High School Football Coach of the Year honors. Central won its first state football title with a 27-17 win over Belfry in the Class 3A final and Berner led Fort Campbell to a 21-7 win over Newport Central Catholic in the Class 2A championship.
