Letter: Tipping makes dining out affordable

January 27, 2008

Dear Editor,

I worked in a restaurant through my college years to help pay tuition. In regards to the letter from Kristy Sugars about people in the restaurant business needing to find other jobs instead of complaining about tips, I have a response. If this happened, then no one would want to work in a restaurant, and the prices would rise drastically so the restaurants could pay their employees.

If it's a treat for someone to eat out, and restaurants raise prices high enough to pay their employees, then I doubt some people will ever get to eat out at all because they won't be able to afford it.
