Dream Makers Homemakers has potluck

February 04, 2008

The Dream Makers Homemakers Club met Jan. 8 for a potluck dinner and s'mores at the Clark County Extension Office where Sharon Dunn shared the thought of the day, "We live as long as we are remembered," and the lesson for the day "Adding a limb to the family tree." Kitty Bennett gave the inspiration.

The potluck dinner table was decorated by Sheila Howard. She handcrafted a snowman centerpiece, and the s'mores added to the winter theme. Members enjoying the s'mores were Kitty Bennett, Kari Bennett, Sharon Dunn, Connie Carie, Kitty Faulkner, Lisa Kudak, Sandy Conn, Sheila Howard, Gloria Patrick, and Amy Neal was welcomed as a new member.

Jennifer Howard, family and consumer services agent, showed the mini egg basket, which is a project planned for Feb. 15 with a $5 fee. She also reminded the homemakers of the W.O.W. workshop, which will be Wednesday and will discuss grains. The workshop is free, and registration can made by calling the extension office.

A report was given on the club's involvement with the fifth grade classes' Christmas program and Christmas party at Fannie Bush Elementary School. The homemakers worked on costumes, make-up and more, and they also assisted with activities for the children's party by making fabric angels, candy cane reindeer, cookies in a jar, greeting cards and decorated cupcakes. They also gave gifts to the children.

Dunn's lesson of "Adding a limb to the family tree" allowed members to discuss how important it was to know the health history of ancestors, and one member shared how she found lost family members on the Internet.

The club will have a Valentine candy and bake sale at Unique Creations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 9. The money made will help their school class.

The homemakers discussed upcoming events such as an International Dinner, An Evening in Finland, Feb. 18 and the Spring Fling, which is themed "Feathers, Flowers and Flags," March 22. Also in March, they will be having a white elephant, and they will start planning for their annual fundraising yard sale in May. Members were also reminded to wear 75th anniversary KEHA pin everywhere they go to promote extension homemakers.

The Dream Makers Homemakers' next meeting is Feb. 12 at 6 p.m., at the Extension Office.
