BURGIN - The Casey County girls used a second-quarter surge to break open a tie game with host Burgin on Thursday and the Rebels went on for an easy 71-35 win.
Kara Weddle led four Casey players in double figures with 13 points and four steals. Tara Weddle, Lauren Hatter and Megan Pittman each scored 12 points for Casey (21-1). Pittman pulled down 14 rebounds and Tara Weddle had five assists.
Bev Harris had 15 points and Alyson Burke 10 for Burgin (10-8).
The game was tied 13-13 before Casey outscored the Bulldogs 23-2 to take a 36-15 halftime lead. The Rebels led 59-27 after three quarters.
Casey coach Randy Slayers credited his team's defense and rebounding for the spurt.
"Nicole Coffman started guarding Harris and made it real difficult for them to get anything going. And we did a real good job on the boards," he said. "We got off a lot more shots off of offensive rebounds.
