About the Arts: My new fancy

February 12, 2008|JENNIFER BRUMMETT

I tell ya - I'm loving Facebook these days.

For the four of you who don't know what Facebook is, it's this rather cool little social networking thing out there on the Infobahn. It can be like a journal online, if you approach it that way. There are a bunch of applications to fiddle around with - some much better than others. I'm developing a distinct dislike for the apps that require one to send what amounts to a link to the app to 10 or 20 people before it will supply the information you're trying to find. I've eliminated any number of apps right off the bat because of that element.

Morons.

Anyhow, Facebook is waaayyy more fun than MySpace. Or maybe I just never gave MySpace much of a chance. I have an idle account there. But I spend a lot more time at Facebook. I love seeing who goes through my music picks and plays what. That's priceless because my tastes are all over the place. There aren't too many spots - presumably; I might be deluding myself - where you can find Black Flag, Lil Jon and Broadway tunes.

Long live Krunk.

So ... Whaddya think - Facebook or MySpace? Or both?

E-mail me.

And the Oscar goes to ...

... Will we know? I mean, heck, Vanity Fair already has canceled its party. The writer's strike cloud hangs over the proceedings.

We'll still have our annual Oscar picks next week. Last year, I bombed. The Academy departed from its norm. How annoying.

This year, there are several prognosticators contributing opinions. So check out next Sunday's C1.

Back after a dozen years

George Strait returns to Lexington's Rupp Arena at 8 p.m. Feb. 29. Special guests for the evening are Little Big Town and Sarah Johns. Tickets are on sale now at ticketmaster.com; cost is $64.50 and $54.50 plus applicable tax and service charges.

Moon-watching

Here's a cool idea: E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park will be the site of a free public observation of a total lunar eclipse Feb. 20, weather permitting. The event is hosted by the Louisville Astronomical Society.

This is the last total lunar eclipse visible in this area until December 2010. Also available for public viewing will be Mars, Saturn, double stars, nebulae, galaxies and star clusters.

The events will be held at the society's Urban Astronomy Center at the park in Louisville's northeastern suburbs. The public is invited to come from sunset to the conclusion of the eclipse.

The park is located at 3000 Freys Hill Road off of Westport Road near the Gene Snyder Expressway. Take the second entrance to the park from Freys Hill Road and go to the end of the road. There will be a sign at the second entrance.
