Some Perryville residents still displaced by sewage back-up

PERRYVILLE - Residents of homes affected by a backed-up sewer line met Wednesday with Danville and Perryville city officials to discuss details of the cleanup.

On Jan. 29, a tree root clogged the line, forcing raw sewage into nine houses.

Danville City Clerk Donna Peek and City Manager Paul Stansbury said officials at the meeting answered any specific questions that residents had about their homes.

Peek said the cleaning crew has finished sanitizing and cleaning the houses. One family planned to move home this weekend, Peek said, and two others were waiting on new flooring to be laid before they could move back in.

Peek said the cleaning crew will send a quote to the city letting it know what needs to be removed from the remaining homes, including floors, baseboards, walls, or anything that came in contact with fluids.

A hygienist will do a final inspection of each home to ensure it is 100 percent clean, she said.

Milburns can't return home yet

Likely all of the affected residents, except the Milburn family at 209 E. Third St., will move back into their homes soon. The Milburn house apparently was the worst affected. Peek said the family currently is renting another place to live until the house is cleaned. That could take up to another month and a half, she added.

City officials have been trying to make the families as comfortable as possible until the cleanup and repairs are completed.

Stansbury said HVAC companies have recommended the necessary replacement or cleaning of units, too.

"We're continuing to work on an individual scale with each resident to ensure that all their lines are clear and working properly," he said. "We're still maintaining contact as they're moving back in and begin to use appliances, making sure it's all functioning properly, continue to maintain contact to make sure everything is clean and running right for them."
