Country singer plans restaurant

HARRODSBURG - Country star Eddie Montgomery plans to open a new restaurant in Harrodsburg.

Mayor Lonnie Campbell said the singer, who lives in Perryville, chose to purchase 39 acres of land on the Harrodsburg bypass to accommodate the new 150,000-square-foot restaurant. Although not completely planned yet, the restaurant also may include a conference room and outdoor ampitheater, as well as some stores, the mayor said.

The restaurant will be called Eddie Montgomery's Steakhouse and will be part of a development called Skylar's Landing, named for the singer's granddaughter, according to Montgomery.

"This will be a start for Harrodsburg and Mercer County to grow," Campbell told the Harrodsburg-Mercer County Industrial Development Authority on Monday. "I'm happy they chose us. Danville was trying so hard to get this at the last moment."

The industrial authority approved a new slate of officers and changed its monthly meeting time Monday.

Phillip Crump was named chairman, Pete Chiericozzi vice chairman, and Bob Williams secretary-treasurer.

Chiericozzi reported on the authority's marketing plans through Google and Yahoo! advertising campaigns. "We're getting some attention but no inquiries," he said.

Williams said the authority has reserves of more than $475,000. It generally spends about $130,000 annually, Del White, executive director, said after the meeting.
