As she awaited her turn before the judge today, Victoria Spoonamore appeared to be in a pleasant mood, smiling, chatting and even bobbing to an imaginary rhythm.

But Spoonamore turned somber and even tearful as she stood before Boyle Circuit Judge Darren Peckler and pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery and first-degree wanton endangerment.

She's likely to receive 12 years in prison when Peckler sentences her on April 8.

Spoonamore, 29, gained statewide notoriety in the fall when bit a clerk a Chill's convenience store while yelling that she had AIDS. Tests confirmed that Spoonamore does carry the HIV virus that can lead to AIDS. The employee was not infected by the bites.

Because of her infection, Spoonamore initially was charged with attempted murder and wanton endangerment but a Boyle County grand jury did not indict her on those charges.

Spoonamore's guilty plea on today, however, did include the wanton endangerment charge for "creating the substantial risk of death or serious injury" during the robbery. Prosecutors planned to take that charge to an upcoming grand jury, Peckler said.

As part of her plea deal, Spoonamore accepted 10 years in prison for the robbery and two more years for wanton endangerment, for a total of 12 years.

The plea agreement also called for $78 in restitution to Chill's for the money taken in the robbery, but Spoonamore said that was incorrect.

"I never got it. I gave it back," she told Peckler.

The restitution matter will be investigated and dealt with at final sentencing, the judge said.
