HARRODSBURG - Charles Winfield Carr, 88, husband of Lynda Lee McGee Carr and former Harrodsburg mayor, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.
Born Jan. 7, 1920, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Sam and Era Coovert Carr. He was a mechanic and, most recently, he was a co-owner of Mercer Music Shop. He had served as a Harrodsburg city commissioner from January 1962 to July 1970, was mayor pro-tem in 1970 and served as mayor from July 1970 to December 1973. He then was elected mayor and served from January 1978 to December 1998. He was a member and deacon of Harrodsburg Baptist Church and was a 12-year volunteer at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.
Additional survivors include a son, Sam (Kathy) Carr of Harrodsburg; a daughter, Charla (Roger) Pratt of Harrodsburg; a son-in-law, Gerald Hummell; and three grandchildren, Jordan Hummell, Kevin Lampson and Spencer Carr. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Hummell; stepson, Lee Phillips; brother, Buford Carr; and sister, Elsie Farnav. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating.
