Collins named alternate to national speech tournament

East Jessamine Forensics Team captain Parker Collins has been named a national qualifier and will compete in the National Forensics League National Tournament in Las Vegas. Collins, who competed with four members of his team at the NFL Kentucky District Tournament at Centre College, was named the third best original orator in the state for his performance of his speech about complications associated with applying for and getting into college. If one of the top two performers is unable to compete at Nationals, Collins will travel to Los Vegas in June to compete. He is the first East student to ever qualify for nationals in forensics.

Collins, along with his co-captain LeAndra Longoria, advanced to NFL Kentucky district finals with their Duo Interpretation of "Funeral Parlor" by Christopher Durang. This same duo will be competing at the national level at the Catholic Forensic League National Tournament in May.

East Middle Falcon Team read at Warner Elementary

7th grade students at East Jessamine Middle School inspire elementary kids to write. Students in Ms. Jackson's and Mrs. Buehler's social studies class have been studying the Feudal System of medieval times.

After creating a children's pop-up book about the feudal system, students read their stories to elementary kids at Warner. This engaging activity encouraged students to write. The middle schoolers were very proud to read their stories and share what they had learned with the younger students.
