Corman appointed to county fire district board

April 16, 2008|Bob Flynn

Nicholasville businessman Clay Corman has been named to the Jessamine County Fire District board by Judge-Executive Wm. Neal Cassity.

Corman will finish out the remainder of the term of long-time board member Ray Miller, who passed away Feb. 22.

Corman is owner of CMC Inc., which does environmental reclamation work for the Environmental Protection Agency.

Cassity said he felt like Corman was the best fit for the job.

"He has done work for the district before, and he has helped the county out on many occasions, and I think he will be an asset to them," Cassity said. "I put a lot of thought into it, and I thought he would be a good fit."

Fire Chief Mike Rupard agreed.

"He couldn't have picked any better man for the job," he said. "He cares about everybody in the county, and he will do a fair and equal job for everybody."

"He has done a lot of work for the fire department and for the county as well. His heart is definitely in it," Rupard added.

Cassity said when he contacted Corman about the position he was excited about the opportunity and said he would love to help.

"Clay's always been there to lend a helping hand to us whenever we needed something in an emergency and was always willing to help out anybody who needed it, so I think he will do a great job," Cassity said.

Fire Board Chair Gary Sorrell said he was looking forward to working with Corman.

"He's been around the county for a long time and loves the people of Jessamine County," he said. "I think he brings a lot to the table and will make a good board member."

The fire board consists of seven members, four of which are elected for the position, two firefighters, elected by firefighters, and two county property owners elected by county residents. The other three members are county property owners appointed by the county judge.

The board meets at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month at Station No. 1.
