LIBERTY - Tyler Murphy of Garrard County faces a second attempt at a surgery to correct a heart ailment, but he is expected to finish out the season before that happens.
Garrard coach Brad Woods said Murphy's surgery on Friday in Lexington to correct a problem that causes his heart to race was unsuccessful because the condition did not present itself.
Murphy has been taking medication since being diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, a heart rhythm abnormality that can result in a very rapid heartbeat, and Woods said there was probably still enough medication in his system to prevent surgeons from inducing and correcting the problem.
Woods said the second surgery will probably be in "mid- to late summer."
Murphy, a junior pitcher-shortstop, played throughout the season while awaiting his surgery with the approval of his doctor and his parents, and Woods said he should rejoin the team Friday or Saturday.
