Crab Orchard residents to march against drugs

May 09, 2008

CRAB ORCHARD - Residents who want to take a stand against drugs can take a hike Saturday from City Hall to Crab Orchard Elementary School and back.

The community's Neighborhood Watch program is sponsoring its first Walk Against Drugs at 11 a.m. to raise awareness of the issue and help raise money.

"Our community does not have any more of a drug problem than any other small community," said Betty Elam, a city commissioner and Neighborhood Watch block captain. "We just want to let our community know we are fighting drugs in Crab Orchard. This is what we do."

Those planning to walk are asked to be at City Hall by 10:30 a.m. The walk will start there at 11 a.m., proceed to the elementary school and then return to City Hall.
