Letter: Obama's good qualities

May 12, 2008

Dear Editor,

A writer to the editor was concerned about "fans of Obama" being uninformed about him. Thank you, but we are all quite well informed about this bright, truthful young senator who will make a good president.

Also, please don't be concerned about Sen. Obama's patriotism.

Where was Bush during Vietnam? We know Cheney had five deferments.

Sen. Obama graduated from Harvard. Harvard accepts the poor as well as the wealthy, if these students have the potential to succeed and graduate. What grants and scholarships he had, I don't know or care about.

Five years ago, when Bush was on his way to being re-elected, those of us who supported Democrat John Kerry, winner of the Purple Heart, were called un-Christian, non-Christian and liberal by writers to this paper and the media in general.

Now we are being labeled socialist, communist and, again, liberal. These writers should look up the definition of these words.

Lastly, it is Bush's war which is ultimately causing high gasoline and food prices.

His buddies are making big bucks from oil. Bush's war is causing us to go into debt $2 billion a day.

A debt we owe, particularly to China, which will one day have to be paid. Bush's war has cost $3 trillion - enough to have fixed Social Security and who knows what else.

Bush's war has caused the rest of the world to look aghast at what was once a country with great potential.

More importantly, Bush's war has caused the deaths of, at this writing, 4,075 brave young American men and women.

The rest of the world shakes its head, and we should bow ours and ask for forgiveness for believing a lie - and going on with life as usual, driving our cars too fast, too far, too often.

America has let this horrible war go on and on, gasoline CEOs making millions, people forgetting we have youngsters dying and thousands of Iraqis being killed for Bush and his rich cronies, not for America.

America needs to remember a war is going on that needs to stop. And, Obama did not vote for it.
