May 22, 2008|MICHAEL BROIHIER

Senator Hillary Clinton carried Lincoln County and the rest of Kentucky in a resounding win over Senator Barack Obama in the Democratic presidential primary.

In the county, Senator Clinton garnered 81 percent of the vote to Senator Obama's 14 percent.

Senator Clinton's victory in Lincoln County was more lopsided than it was in the rest of the state, where she earned 65 percent of the vote.

Senator John McCain, already the presumptive GOP nominee, was the easy winner on the Republican side collecting 70 percent of primary votes cast in the county and 72 percent state wide.

In other races, Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell was the easy winner receiving 87 percent of the votes over challenger Daniel Essek. Sen. McConnell will face Democrat Bruce Lunsford in the fall. Mr. Lunsford outpaced his nearest rival, Greg Fisher, by more than a 2-to-1 margin, collecting 61 percent of the Lincoln County votes.
