Postcard From Iraq

May 22, 2008|Sgt. Justin Clarkson (USMC)

My name is Sgt. Justin Clarkson, last year you guys helped me out with getting some pictures published for me so my friends who I never see these days could keep up with me. I hope you can do the same this year because it really meant a lot to me.

I just got selected for Staff Sergeant and I am attached to 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion out of Quantico, VA. I am currently on my 4th straight combat tour and have spent over 2 out the past for 4 years in combat in Iraq. Last year I received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with a Combat "V" for Valor for actions while in a fire fight in Al Anbar Providence in the city of Rubtah. This year I am assigned as the Master Gunner for Delta Company and a Vehicle Commander of a LAV-25 again in the Al Anbar Providence. We train and work with the Iraqi Police while searching for weapons smuggling and insurgents coming in and out the northern borders of Iraq.

I plan on putting in for the Marine Corps Warrant Officer program when I return home in early October.

I appreciate how you treat our military and the support you give us all, not many people remember that we are still over here and still in the fight everyday. So thank you for all that you do for us again. I am a 1996 Boyle County High School graduate and my parents are Jerry and Lanie Powell of Stanford and Billy and Marsha Clarkson of Glasgow, Ky. It would mean a lot to them since I don't have the opportunity to talk to them that much. Thanks again for all that you do for us!

Respectfully,

Sgt. Justin Clarkson (USMC)
