Police news: Equipment, trailers stolen in Danville

May 23, 2008

Another trailer was stolen from in front of a Danville residence this week. Assistant Chief Tony Gray said this makes several that have been taken in the last few weeks.

Wednesday, a caller from 218 Candlewood Drive said his white, double-axle box trailer was taken during the day. Earlier in the week, another trailer was stolen from a different residence, Gray said.

"We've also had some utility trailers - the flatbed kind - stolen; maybe about three or four of them," Gray said. Some of them had mowers, Weed Eaters or other equipment on them when they were taken.

Some of the other areas hit are the Swope Drive and Shadeland Avenue areas and Alta and Beatty avenues.

"Some have been during the day. We're investigating all the cases to see if they are related," Gray said.

Also, last weekend, several steel chain saws were taken from company trucks over the weekend on Stewart's Lane. Gray said the culprits pried open the storage boxes on the trucks to steal the equipment.

Gray said many of the trailers made today have a hitch made in a way that a padlock can be used to prevent someone from simply backing up to them and hitching them to a vehicle.

"The best thing they can do is keep them out of the road where people can't just pull right up and put a hitch to them," Gray said.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Danville Police Department at (859) 238-1224.

Buried bong found in yard

A resident on Orchard Drive called Danville police on Wednesday, disturbed after finding drug paraphernalia buried in plastic bags in her yard.

Assistant Chief Tony Gray said police responded to the residence and retrieved a bong and destroyed it.

"Several years ago, not at that residence but at one near it, we went out there on a search warrant," Gray explained.

He said when officers arrived, the suspected drug dealer had taken items out of the house and placed them in various areas outside.

"Drug dealers will hide things outdoors in places like fence rows," Gray said. "It's not uncommon at all."

Garrard home burglarized

An Xbox and several games, two pairs of athletic shoes, a DVD player and stereo were included on the list.

The burglar is suspected to have gained entry through a bedroom window.
