Short receives nursing degree from UK

Ashley N. Short, a 2001 graduate of East Jessamine High School, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy May 2. She will continue her education through the pharmacy residency program at Lexington's Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Ashley is the daughter of Don and Lynda Short.

HFWEF accepting applications for partial college tuition

The Horse Farm Workers' Educational Fund is accepting applications for partial college tuition scholarships or technical programs from recent high school graduates. Applicants must be children of a parent or parents who work full-time on a central Kentucky thoroughbred farm and have done so for three years. Applications are due July 1 and are available by calling 859-269-1719.

Ensor wins design award

East Jessamine High School senior Jacob Ensor took home first place in Web Design at the Student Technology Leadership Program held May 6 in Lexington. Ensor's winning design can been seen on his Web site at www.jacobensor.com. He is the son of Jack and Brenda Ensor of Nicholasville.

Wise makes EKU Dean's List

Former West Jessamine High student Travis Wise was named to the Eastern Kentucky University Dean's List for the Spring 2008 Semester. Students must achieve a 3.5 GPA to make the list. Wise received the President's Award for the fall semester for earning a 4.0 GPA. He is the son of Kim Wise.

Local students receive Asbury scholarships

Asbury College awarded academic scholarships to several Jessamine County students recently.

Kelsey Peterson, of Wilmore, received one of 16 H.C. Morrison Scholarships equaling 50 percent of tuition, which are awarded on a competitive basis to new students who demonstrate the most outstanding scholastic achievement.

Receiving Presidential Scholarships, which represent 15 to 30 percent of tuition at the institution, were: Melissa Moon, Stephanie Eberhard, Briana Richardson, Natalie Young, Blake Lawless, Samantha Keeling, Richard Swanson, Susanna Roller, Jordan Lingreen, Joel McKenzie and Andrew Baker.

Two students, Hannah Smith and Jared Hager, were awarded Governor's Scholarships which are awarded graduates of Kentucky high schools who attended either the Governor's Scholars or Governor's School for the Arts programs. The scholarship ranges from 15-35 percent of tuition.

King named to University of Cumberlands Dean's List

The University of the Cumberlands Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs announced that Kayla King, of Wilmore, has been named to the Dean's List for the spring 2008 semester.

Full-time students who have obtained a cumulative scholastic standing of 3.5 are eligible for the list.

Nail to attend Berea College

Mary E. Nail, a graduate of West Jessamine High School has been admitted to Berea College as a member of the 2008 freshman class.

As an enrolled student at Berea, Nail has been awarded a four-year tuition scholarship. Berea admits students based on their academic achievement, community service, leadership potential and financial need.

BCTC announces Dean's List

Bluegrass Community & Technical College announced its Dean's List recipients for the 2008 Spring Semester.

To make the Dean's List, recipients must be full-time students who have earned an overall semester grade point average of 3.5 or better in courses numbered 100 or above.
