WHITESBURG (AP) - State disaster and Red Cross officials were in eastern and central Kentucky over the weekend to assess storm damage in five counties. The worst damage was reported in Letcher County and the Letcher county seat, Whitesburg. Eight Whitesburg businesses were damaged by the storm, along with eight houses and six mobile homes, said DES.
The two top goats out of 177 entries in Saturday's Spring Bluegrass Classic Dairy Goat Show at the Clark County Fairgrounds both hail from the same Harrodsburg farm. The Best Doe in Show, the Grand Champion Semper Fieldis Verona Dare, and the Best Buck in Show, Grand Champion B Redwood Hills Psychic, are both owned by Phillip Feret of Anacacho Farm in Harrodsburg. Both are Alpine Goats.
Ellen Carter, an elementary school teacher for 31 years, will be honored at an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Mount Sterling Elementary School. Ms. Carter began her teaching career in Menifee County where she taught for five years before transferring to Mount Sterling, where she taught 26 years in the elementary schools. A graduate of Berea College, Ms. Carter has a master's degree in elementary education from Morehead State University. Hosts for the event will be her children.
