June 12, 2008|Nancy Leedy

Once again, Lincoln County baseball player Brandon Weir could use your vote.

Earlier this year, Weir was named Player of the Week for the Get Healthy Kentucky (GHK) "No Spit" All-Star Program, thanks to online voting.

Now, Weir is on the ballot for the All-Star of the Year and, like before, the winner will be determined by online voting.

Weir, a pitcher/infielder, hit .432 this past season at LCHS with two triples, four doubles, three home runs, 19 RBI's, and 10 stolen bases. On the mound, the sophomore hurler was 3-for-3 with a 3.34 earned run average and 72 strike outs. He also had a no-hitter and a one-hitter.

High school baseball fans can vote for the GHK "No Spit" All-Star of the Year online at http://www.TheSportsFlash.com/KYnoSpit.htm. Voting ends Thursday, June 12, at 8 p.m. EDT. Fans can vote by either clicking on the voting link (one vote every 10-12 hours) or sending an e-mail once per hour using the email link next to Weir's player profile on the web page.

The other candidates for All-Star Player of the Year are: Tyler Dunaway of Eastern; Aaron Mayfield of LaRue County; Lucas Mohon of Barren County; Tyler O'Daniel of Marshall County; Mark Roberts of Henderson County; Jacob Scalf of Knox Central; and Kris Sipes of Pleasure Ridge Park.

The 2008 "No Spit" All-Star campaign is a collaborative effort by "The Sports Flash" (TSF) Radio Network and GHK to help reduce tobacco use in the Commonwealth. The "No Spit" campaign honors the best high school baseball players in Kentucky who have pledged not to use spit tobacco or any tobacco products — on or off the field.

St. Xavier's Damon McCormick won the inaugural GHK "No Spit" All-Star of the Year in 2007. McCormick pitched four shutouts and three one-hitters, finishing his senior season with a 6-2 record and a 1.91 earned run average. McCormick hit .300 at the plate, with 19 stolen bases. He now plays shortstop for Valparaiso University.
