Henry Edward "Corky" Cooper, 79, of Gainesville Drive, Nicholasville, formerly of Lexington, died June 22 after a long illness. He was a native of Irvine, son of the late Roy Cooper Sr. and Grace Mastin Cooper. He was the retired co-owner of Cooper & Cooper Painting, a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, was a Shriner and Kentucky Colonel, attended Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. Mr. Cooper was an avid fisherman, gardener and lover of animals and nature he loved traveling and was very full of life and would wish a celebration of life in lieu of sorrow.
Survivors include a daughter, Jody and husband Irton Slone of Lancaster, two sons, James and wife Betty Cooper of McKee, and David Cooper of Lexington, grandchildren, Shannon Cooper, Debi and wife Brad Edwards, Edward Cooper, Little Roy Cooper, Anna Maria Cooper, Bryce and Aden Slone, four great-grandchildren, three sisters, Wilma Sharp, Lois Blair and Eureka and husband Ed Drake, his best friend and companion, Vicki Buckley, a sister-in-law, Norma Cooper, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Lynn Cooper, brothers, Amile Thomas and Roy Cooper and a sister, Lillian Thacker.
