Fireworks display at Millenium Park

July 03, 2008

The City of Danville and Boyle County will be sponsoring the annual Independence Day Fireworks program at Millennium Park in Danville this Friday, July 04. Firefighters from Boyle County Fire Protection District and the City of Danville will set off the fireworks at around 9:40 PM, with support from Danville Police Department and Boyle County EMS.

The fireworks will be shot from the east portion of the Boyle County Fairgrounds and, as a safety precaution, the fairgrounds will be closed to the general public starting at 8:00 PM the night of the fireworks show. This precaution is to keep bystanders from entering into the fireworks safety zones, which allows for shell debris and embers to fall to the ground without endangering patrons of the park. Attendance at the event will be limited to just outside the Fairgrounds, with the best viewing area being just off the soccer fields at Millennium. The park will have adequate parking, and will be the location of the sound system and the American flag display.

Fire department personnel will be on hand assisting Danville Police in keeping the drop zones clear immediately prior to the fireworks show.

The fireworks are an annual tradition funded equally by the Boyle County Fiscal Court and the Danville Board of Commissioners. Firefighters from all over Boyle County will be in charge of setting off fireworks, and Boyle County EMS will be on stand-by as a safety precaution. No other personnel will be allowed in the Fairgrounds during the fireworks program.

In the event of inclement weather or other circumstances, the program might be delayed to the following evening, July 05.
