Track: Boyle's Gagle picks Lindsey Wilson

July 09, 2008|HAL MORRIS

Morgan Gagle doesn't even report to Lindsey Wilson College until the middle of next month, and already she's planning on making an impact early.

"My goal is to get their discus record this year," said Gagle, a recent Boyle County graduate who signed with the school's track and field team Tuesday.

Gagle's best throw is 97 feet, 2 inches, while the Lindsey Wilson record is 108-9.

However, Gagle said she improved 13 feet from her junior to senior year in the discus without much coaching. So she's pretty confident she can achieve that goal once she begins work with the Blue Raiders' coaches in December, especially since she is the only thrower on the team this coming season.

"I really see it as a possibility," she said.

Gagle chose Lindsey Wilson over Union.

"I knew a couple of people on the track team from high school, and it's a smaller school, which I like," she said. "And, they gave me some money. Union was too small. They had only something like 220 incoming freshmen. That was smaller than my high school."

Gagle also ran relays at Boyle, but said she just plans on sticking with the discus in college.

To prepare for her college career, Gagle has been running and doing push-ups and crunches. She's also keeping up her form by throwing periodically.

"I do it on my own, but (Lindsey Wilson coach Edwin Hagans) gave me a weekly workout plan," she said. "I only throw once a week to keep my rhythm."
