July 10, 2008|Nancy Leedy

Contessa Strothers and Holden Stamper took home the title of 2008 Little Miss and Mister, winning the contest over seven other couples at the Lincoln County Fair.

Strothers, 6, dressed in a red, white and blue nautical-themed outfit, and Stamper, 5, wearing a red polo shirt and white shorts, were presented as a couple as they stepped before the judges in Thursday night's contest at the Teddy Gilbert Pageant Pavilion.

Strothers, the daughter of John and Sherrie Strothers of Stanford, and Stamper, the son of Aaron and Jennifer Stamper of Stanford, stepped timidly to center stage after their couple number was announced as the winner. After receiving their prizes, Stamper asked quietly, "Did we win?"

Last year's Little Miss and Mister, Brayli and Taven Steberl, presented the 2008 winners with their trophies, sashes and $25 cash awards. Strothers also received a crown and Stamper a medallion.

As the new Little Miss and Mister, Strothers and Stamper will now represent Lincoln County in the Kentucky State Fair Little Miss and Mister Contest in Louisville in August.

During the onstage interview, Strothers said that her favorite color is pink and that she is a karate fan. After demonstrating a karate move for mistress of ceremonies Haley Ralston, Strothers took her seat alongside Stamper. Stamper grabbed his own moment in the spotlight as well. He said he liked to take care of his little sisters and camping then proceeded to demonstrate his love of singing with a few bars of "Jesus Loves Me."

Little Miss and Mister couple #4 grabbed runner-up honors in the contest, with Savannah Jane Robbins and Preston Barnes ranking high with the judges. Robbins, 5, is the daughter of Tim and Missy Robbins of Waynesburg, and Barnes, 5, is the son of Dave and Kassi Barnes of Stanford.

During her interview with Ralston, Robbins talked of her love of anything at Nana and Papaw's house, playing soccer and t-ball, watching the Disney channel, listening to Taylor Swift and singing. Barnes said he liked horse and buggy rides, fireworks, campouts and being on the swim team.

The other Little Miss and Mister couples were: Alexis Knouse, 6, and Joshua Coddington, 7, daughter and son of Sebrina Knouse and Larry Knouse of Stanford; Molly Demrow, 5, daughter of Curt and Jaime Demrow of Hustonville, and Eli Hurt, 5, son of Jason and Brandy Hurt of Stanford; Trinity Shearer, 5, daughter of Brian and Rebecca Shearer of Stanford, and Cruise Russell Wilson, 5, son of Carrie Wilson of Stanford and Chad Wilson of Danville; Alyea Towle, 5, daughter of Craig and Jessice Towle of Hustonville, and Cade Jenkins, 5, son of Coby and Erica Jenkins of Stanford; Victoria Noe, 6, daughter of John and Melissa Noe of Crab Orchard, and Ethan Conner James, 6, son of Jeremy and Andi James of Stanford; and Cameron Thompson, daughter of Nathan and Stephanie Thompson of Kings Mountain, and Austin Coulter, 6, son of Greg and Amanda Coulter of Hustonville.
