Dr. Rodney Johnston, 84, of Lancaster, died Tuesday, July 1 at the Christian Care Center in Lancaster.
A native of Morehead, he was born to the late George P. Johnston and Grace Fraley Johnston. He attended Marshall University in Huntington, W. Va., was a 1958 graduate of Pennsylvania State College of Optometry, practiced optometry in Lancaster and Stanford for 36 years, was a World War II Army veteran, was a member of the American Optometric Society and Southeastern Congress of Optometry, a honorary Kentucky Colonel, and a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster where he was a deacon and elder and sang in the choir.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, P. M. Johnston; and two sisters, Hildrith Johnston Massey and Barbara Johnston.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Johnston of Lancaster; sons, Phillip (Pamela) Johnston of Danville and Douglas Johnston of Lexington; a daughter, Susan (David) Johnston Jones of Cottage Grove, Wis.; three grandchildren, Maggie Jones, Riley Jones, and Megan Johnston.
