The Clark County Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons is one of more than 3,000 AARP organizations in the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia, according to Stanley Fraley, local president. The national organization is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Shannon Gillum was crowned the 1984 Clark County Junior Miss Saturday night at Conkwright Junior High School. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Gillum, she also won the talent, appearance and poise portions of the competition. Gail Garrett won the scholastic award.

Lily May Ledford, a member of the "Coon Creek Girls," a popular country band in the 1930s, recently participated in the Appalachian Celebration at Morehead State University. Ms. Ledford performed on the lawn of the Camden-Carroll Library.
