James Alexander Laine

James Alexander Laine, 88, formerly of Winchester, departed this life on Wednesday, July 16, at 8:48 p.m. at the Lake Worth Manor in Lake Worth, Fla.

He was born June 1, 1920 in Winchester, to the late Geneva and Henry Laine.

After completing his primary and high school education in Kentucky, he attended and graduated from Kentucky State College where he received a bachelor's degree and became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. His employment as a Pullman car waiter, and later maitre d, would allow him to live in and travel many states. He truly enjoyed these ventures and made many lifelong friends. He was also a contractor, businessman, and entrepreneur.

When Jim was not working, you could usually find him fishing or trying to go fishing. He was an avid fisherman. He was also a lifelong member of Clark United Methodist Church, as well as a resident of Winchester and Delray Beach, Fla.

Mourning his departure, yet cherishing the many memories, include his two daughters, Gwendolyn (Carl) Jones of Dayton, Ohio, and Vanessa "Kitty" (Howard) Briscoe of Franklin, Tenn.; two brothers, Richard (Lula) Cooper of Prescott, Ariz. and Stewart (Mary) Cooper of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Barbara Hodge of Cincinnati, Ohio, a cousin, Johnny Laine, who was like a brother; grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; his special friend Anna Ruth Jones; and many other friends and neighbors in Delray Beach, Fla. and Winchester who feel the loss of Jim deeply.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two special aunts, Carrie and Esther Laine; two sisters, Mary Laine Keeter and Alice Cooper Thurman; and one brother, William Cooper.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 26, at 1 p.m. at the Clark United Methodist Church, 152 W. Broadway by the Rev. Harold K. Taylor.

Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery.

In charge of all arrangements is Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 S. Main St.

Timothy Scott Bankes

Timothy Scott Bankes, 48, of Winchester, passed away Sunday in Racine, Wis. He was the son of Gerald W. and Jean Faye Kaylor Bankes of Winchester.

Funeral services will be Friday at 6 p.m. at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 S. Main St., by the Rev. Henry H. Loppnow. Visitation will be Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Timothy Bankes Memorial Fund at Peoples Exchange Bank in Winchester.
