SATURDAY

Providence Christian Church Yard Sale will be Saturday, Aug. 2, at 101 Providence Way, in Brannon Crossing. Sponsored by the Service Group. For more information, call 272-3655.

"Reel World String Band" comes to Stonebridge Summer Saturday Night Concert on the Downtown Green in Wilmore on Saturday, August 2 at 7 p.m. Influenced by traditional and old-time music with a touch of country, swing, blues, and jazz, Reel World's soulful songwriting and instrumental virtuosity make for American roots music with a rare fire and authenticity. Table and chairs provided, as well as a local food vendor selling refreshments. Free and open to public.

The 4th Annual Rural Heritage Fishing Tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, at Bryant's Camp-Marina, on Herrington Lake at 853 Bryant's Camp Road. Check-in time will begin at 5:30 p.m. The tournament starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 2 a.m. The entry fee is $80 per boat, with an 80 percent payback. We will have first, second and third place prizes, plus biggest fish. Stokley's Marine of Nicholasville and local businesses in Lancaster are sponsoring this event with lots of great door prizes to be given. Some of the items that will be given are boat batteries, gift certificates, and coolers. You may register the day of the event. For more information, call 548-3167.

SUNDAY

Nicholasville Christian Church, Disciples of Christ will be conducting an Installation Service this Sunday, Aug. 3 for their newly named senior minister, the Rev. Jeffrey Brad Mandrell. It will be held at 10:45 a.m. in the church's sanctuary at 104 S. Second St., in downtown Nicholasville. Nursery care will be provided. TUESDAY

The Jessamine County Ministerial Association will be having a fellowship picnic 6:30 p.m., Aug. 5 at First Assembly of God in Nicholasville for all pastors and staff of ministries and their families. Drinks, hamburgers, hot dogs and their fixings will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring a side dish if they are able. Call 553-2430 to RSVP.

WEDNESDAY

A Fireside Chat with John Wesley and Francis Asbury will take place at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 6. No stranger to Wilmore, renowned dramatist Chuck Killian will recreate the character, life and times of two men most responsible for bringing and spreading Methodism throughout America. "The Story of our Roots" is a true celebration of our spiritual heritage. Reception immediately following. Free and open to the public. The event will be held at the Wilmore Senior Community Center at Wesley Village.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Wilmore Presbyterian Church will hold a back to school worship and prayer service at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 7. All are invited to join in this time of prayer for the safety of our schools, students, teachers, staffs and administrators. The service will be held at Wilmore Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Riverview Baptist Church, 249 Camp Daniel Boone Road, will hold a monthly singing at 6:30 p.m. on the first Friday of each month. The stage is open to all singers of any age. The event is free and open to the public. The church will provide a main course for a dinner, and those attending are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. The East Jessamine High School Band invites the public to attend the annual East Jessamine High School Marching Invitational Contest on Saturday, Sept. 6. The contest will be held at the high school at 815 Sulphur Well Road, Nicholasville. Admission will be charged, with proceeds benefiting the EJHS Band program. Concessions will be available.

Thomson-Hood Veteran's Center will be having a Veteran's Appreciation Day Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. Jordan Lay Young and one resident will be singing. All Veterans eat free. For more information call (859) 858-2814.

Warner Elementary School will have its Open House Aug. 11, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Parents and students will be able to meet their new teachers.
