Albert Ray "Bud" Pickett, 87, of Harrodsburg and Lake Wales, Fla., husband for 57 years to Mary H. Pickett, died Wednesday, July 23, at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born March 17, 1921, in Jessamine County, he was the son of the late Albert R. and Elizabeth Frederick Pickett. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a retired Regional Supervisor with Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife where he served for 29 years. Bud was also a farmer, a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Besides his wife, survivors include two brothers, Lloyd Pickett Sr., of Harrodsburg and Carl B. Pickett of Tucson, Ariz., special friend Ann F. Evans of Harrodsburg, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise O'Connell and Betty Jean Shearer. Funeral services were conducted at noon on Monday, July 28, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Strange officiating. Burial with military honors were in Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Lloyd Pickett, Jr., Allen Pickett, Bill Pickett, Eli Miller, Bobby Grider, and Roger Vineyard serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. William Scott Van Meter and Chester Elkin. Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 7 a.m. Monday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
