COACH: Bill Kirk, second year.

LAST YEAR: The Lady Cardinals broke even and went 10-10, winning the 24th District title before losing to Bourbon County in the 12th Region tournament. Clark lost nine starters last year.

TOP RETURNEES: Sarah Warner, Katie Sharp, Kelsey Neumann, Ashtyn Abner, Becca Curtis and Kaitlyn Boldt. "(They) are good players with experience at the varsity level." Seniors Warner and Abner will serve as team captains.

EARLY START: Kirk said his team is in better shape heading into the season. "One of the keys this year is the improved overall fitness of the team," he said. "We started our conditioning program much earlier this year." He also hopes the emphasis on conditioning will pay off down the stretch. "The strengths are their team spirit and level of fitness which will come to the fore as the season progresses. This year these girls will be as full of running at the end of a game as they are at the start and will be better prepared for the rigors of postseason play."

OUTLOOK: Kirk also likes his team's makeup, which includes a mixture of upper and lower classmen. "The experience level is pretty solid. They have that extra experience of our system of play." Despite the team''s experience, Kirk said his team is young. "This is a very young team with six sophomores on the roster." Kirk said his team's schedule will be "challenge." "I expect us to do well, especially in the tournaments that we have entered. As for expectations, it's very simple. If we win all of our games against regional opponents, then we will achieve our first goal of getting to the state championships." As for a region favorite, Kirk likes Harrison County. "Harrison County might surprise a number of people."

QUOTABLE: "I don't think there is any team in the district or the region that we should be afraid of or concerned about. Just about every school is going through a rebuilding year having lost a number of starters from last year."
