The George Rogers Clark High School boys' soccer team posted a shutout to open the new season with a 2-0 win over St. Henry Tuesday night in Erlanger.

The Cardinals (1-0) scored first when Ryan Blair connected on a score from six yards out to give Clark a 1-0 advantage. Blair's score came with 4:22 remaining in the opening half on a breakaway goal.

Clark scored its final goal of the contest on a score from Tyler Wallin at the 33:50 mark. Wallin's goal was scored on an assist from Taylor Moody.

Clark coach Greg Dyk was pleased with his team's effort, especially on the defensive end.

"It was a very good defensive effort," the Clark coach said. "St. Henry was an excellent possession team and kept us on the defensive for a good part of the game. We did an admmirable job of not giving up anything easy and recording the shutout."

Dyk singled out the play of Rex Catron, Mark Saporito, Joe Heil, Aaron Haggard, Jered Hall and Hunter Cook.

"They all played well defensively," Dyk said.

Clark goal keeper Hunter Cook recorded three saves for Clark.

In the junior varsity contest, the Cards posted a 1-0 victory, with Israel Arambul scoring the lone goal for Clark.

The Cards recorded six shots on goal and goal keeper Ben Harris had five saves.

"It was a good way to start off the first game," Clark coach Patrick Fitzgerald said. "Ethan Varner and Ethan Taulbee did a good job at controlling the middle."
