Letter: Let justice be served

August 22, 2008

Dear Editor,

A while back, a motorist hit and killed a UK student while she was crossing a Lexington street. He was later " charged" with only leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with physical evidence.

Hello, do any of our officials know the law? I have been told by a lawyer that state law allows a murder charge to be handed down when someone acts recklessly and with extreme indifference to human life while he or she operates a vehicle.

So I ask, why has the DUI offender been charged with just misdemeanor charges when his actions took the life of another person, and he didn't stop and render aid after he hit her with his truck?

If your actions take the life of another you should, at least, be charged with something more, and let the courts decide your fate.
