Kindergartner's mom accuses Danville bus driver of negligence

August 26, 2008|BOBBIE CURD

The director of public relations with Danville schools said an investigation will begin immediately into a local woman's claim that her 5-year-old son was dropped off at the wrong residence after school on Monday.

Josh Fuqua said he was not aware of the incident until a reporter from a television news station contacted him at 8 p.m. Monday.

Fuqua was told that Virginia Rodriguez contacted the television station because her son, who is a kindergartner, was not dropped off at the baby sitter's home after school as she had requested, and instead was dropped off at his home.

"From what I understand, the baby sitter's home is about two blocks down from the residence, and the bus driver says the request had not been filtered down to him," Fuqua said.

Fuqua said Rodriguez also claimed her son was left on a Danville school bus the first day of school, and that the bus driver found him after he returned to the bus garage.

"We're investigating that, reviewing all the video from the buses," Fuqua said. "The driver said no child has ever been left on one of his buses."

Fuqua said Danville's district office has not been in communication with Rodriguez.

"We haven't been able to talk to the school or anything else as far as checking out what happened with her request or who she made the request through," Fuqua said. "Again, I didn't know anything about it until the news contacted me."

Rodriguez could not be reached for comment.
