Fans awaiting the start of the 2008 Lincoln County High School football season have to wait no more, with the kickoff of the season tomorrow night.

The Lincoln County Patriots and first-year Coach Mike Settles open their gridiron campaign in game two of the annual Death Valley Bowl doubleheader Friday at LCHS.

The Death Valley Bowl will feature Garrard County and Bell County in head-to-head competition in the first game of the evening, with the opening kickoff set for 6 o'clock. Washington County will be Lincoln's foe in the late game with the Commanders set to challenge the Patriots beginning around 8:30.

After a lengthy preseason and two grueling scrimmages against Bell County and Anderson County, Settles says his team is ready to play.

"We've been hitting on each other long enough so we're ready to play somebody and see what we can do," he said. "The players have worked hard in practice and we've had scrimmages against two very tough football teams to better prepare us for the season."

Tickets for the Death Valley Bowl are $7 per person. Children not of school age will be admitted free. The $7 admission covers both games (no discounts are offered for fans wanting to see only one game). No coach's passes or season passes will be accepted at the gate.

At the end of each bowl game, a Death Valley Bowl Most Valuable Player will be selected from each team and presented with a trophy.
