Drethea "Rose" Hines1938-2008

Drethea "Rose" Hines, 70, of Stanford died Wednesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. The daughter of Dorothy Wilson Hubble of Moreland and the Late Ruby Lee Hubble, she was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Liberty, Ky.

She was the widow of James Hines and a homemaker. She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Hines of Lexington, Ky., and Pamela Hines and Susan Moore, both of Moreland, Ky.; four sons, Paul Lee (Deborah) Hines of Moreland, Ky., Daniel (Stacy) Alexander of Bowling Green, Ky., and James David Hines and Timothy Alexander, both of Danville, Ky.; a special friend, David Young of Perryville; three sisters, Jamie (James) Trisler of Harrodsburg, Ky., Francena Phillips and Rita (Bobby) Craig, both of Danville, Ky., two brothers, Donnie (Pat) Hubble of Harrodsburg, Ky., and Ronnie (Ruby) Hubble of Moreland, Ky.; and seven grandchildren, Haley Boyd, Ashley Taylor, Joshua Alexander, Tamara Hines, Latosha Hines, Joshua Hines and Marisha Hines. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jessica Dawn Hines.


A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Junction City Cemetery with the Rev. Dale Denton officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home and Family Center, Junction City. Memorial donations may be made to The Drethea Hines Memorial Fund c/o Farmers National Bank.

Michael Fredrick Hood1934-2008

Michael Frederick Hood, 74, of Greenville, Mich., died Tuesday. He was born on May 10, 1934, to John F. "Jack" and Maebelle Jane Gruelich Hood.

Surviving are his wife, Anne; daughter, Leah (Tom) Talaski; son, William (Melissa) Hood; five grandchildren; two brothers, John and Bert Hood; sister, Margaret Frejkowski; sister-in-law, Mary Jo (Hugh) Coomer; and a brother-in-law, King (Brenda) Pruitt.

Mass will be Saturday in Greenville, Mich. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery. Local arrangements are at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home.


Boone E. Wells1942-2008

HARRODSBURG - Boone E. Wells, 65, husband of Dora Long Wells, died Tuesday. Born Oct. 20, 1942 in Harlan, he was the son of the late Roy and Bessie Wells.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Jody (Fred) Griffin, and Kathy and Karen Wells; two brothers, Preston and Lester Wells; one sister, Frances Crawford; and one granddaughter, Brittany Griffin.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today and after 7 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.


Roger Lee Sparkman1944-2008

STANFORD - Roger Lee Sparkman, 64, of Stanford died Wednesday at his home. He was born Aug. 24, 1944, in Louisville to the late Herbert and Stella Collins Sparkman.

Roger was the former owner of Sparkman's Paint in Danville. He was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church, VFW, American Legion and DAV.

He his survived by his wife of 44 years, Saundra Morgan Sparkman. Other survivors include a son, Roger Lee Sparkman Jr. of Stanford; a daughter, Tammy Jo Sparkman of Stanford; a brother, Bobby Sparkman of Stanford; a sister, Juanita Bates of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and five grandchildren, Leah, Abby and Seth Sparkman, and Ryan and Stella Short. He was preceded in death by a brother.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today at Spurlin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, officiated by the Rev. Johnny Baker, with burial following at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby James, Harvey Naylor, Rob Lafoon, Mike VanHook, Bobby Pollard and Ed Hyden. Honorary bearers are from VFW of Danville, with military honors by Caswell Saufley Post 18. Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society or Heritage Hospice.


Betty M. Mesplay

Betty M. Mesplay, 72, of Owensboro, Ky., died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at her home.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jack Mesplay; two sons, John (Andrea) Mesplay of Danville, Ky., and Gary (Rachel) Mesplay of Owensboro; two daughters, Susan (Brad) Reynolds of Pleasant Ridge, Ky., and Holly Mesplay of Owensboro; eight grandchildren; a brother, Rodney Malone of Santa Claus, Ind., and a sister, Evelyn Clark of Owensboro.

Services will be noon Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Tri-State Multiple Sclerosis Association, 909-A So.
