School board pays bills

PAINT LICK - The Garrard County School Board held its regular meeting Tuesday night at Paint Lick Elementary School. The main order of business was paying the bills for construction on the new Garrard County High School.

The school board approved payments of more than $1.4 million. Much of the money will pay for preparations in advance of the project's second phase.

Superintendent Ray Woolsey said this round of expenses will be partially funded with an $875,000 certificate of depost the district recently cashed. The remainder will come from the general fund.

Boyle homemaker meetings scheduled

Boyle County Homemaker clubs scheduled to meet this month are:

Parksville: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Connie's Restaurant in Parksville

Streamland: 10 a.m. Sept. 24 at Kelma Johnson's home

Twi-Lite: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Kentucky Depot restaurant in Stanford.

Silly Scrappers: 3 p.m. Friday and Sept. 19 at the county extension office.

Crazy Quilters: 10 a.m. Tuesday and Sept. 23 and 30 at the county extension office.

Boyle AARP to meet

The Boyle County AARP chapter will have its monthly meeting 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Shoney's restaurant. The guest speaker will be Jean Denny from Shoebox Children's Charities. Other items of discussion will be the upcoming elder abuse rally and the upcoming Veterans Appreciation Day. Anyone 50 and older from Boyle and surrounding communities is welcome.

Horse show planned

Johnsons plan family reunion

The Johnson family reunion will begin noon Saturday at the home of Marty and Vickie Anderson in Stanford. A potluck meal will be served. For more information, call (606) 365-1550.

Fire department prohibits burning

Boyle County Fire Department is asking residents not to burn brush due to dry conditions. According to the U.S. Drought Mitigation Center, Kentucky is under a moderate drought. Until conditions change, no burn permits will be issued.

Danville Cemetery Committee - 4:30 p.m. Thursday for a walk through Bellevue Cemetery. Routine business is on the agenda.

Boyle and Mercer County Joint Jail Committee - 2 p.m. Friday at Mercer County Fiscal Court building. The agenda includes reports, finances and medical quotes.

Junction City Council - 7 p.m. Thursday at Junction City Hall. The agenda includes discussion of the Old Phillips 66 Lot.
