Police arrest one for dirt bike thefts

September 18, 2008|George Lewis

Stanford Police Det. Barry Allen recovered three dirt bikes Friday and arrested an 18 year old for receiving stolen property.

Allen took Josh Johnson into custody at 242 Singleton Road and recovered two of the four dirt bikes that were stolen the previous week from Jeff Smith's cycle shop on U.S. 150 in Stanford.

Allen said Johnson told the resident of Singleton Road, "I can't keep them at my grandmother's house because she doesn't like motorcycles."

The friend was not charged, Allen said.

The detective said one of the stolen dirt bikes was sold to a Somerset scrap yard; another was recovered at a body shop near Smith's cycle shop.

Smith said other suspects remain at large.

He said he knows this because someone saw the burglary happen but was reluctant to come forward "because he was somewhere he wasn't supposed to be."

The investigation continues, Allen said.
