George Rogers Clark High School boys' soccer coach Greg Dyk didn't have much to say following the Cardinals' 5-2 loss to Franklin County Thursday night.

Clark (5-3-3) had tied in its two previous games, but the Flyers scored four goals in the second half en route to a 5-2 win over the host Cards.

"Unfortunately, I have nothing good to say about that performance," the Clark coach said. "The question now is how and if we are able to bounce back and get back on track."

Clark trailed 1-0 at halftime and scored a pair of goals in the second half.

Jose Arambul connected on a header on an assist from teammate Chris Heil at the 41st minute of the contest. Nick Shirley completed the Cards' scoring output with a goal from 10 yards out for the team's last score of the contest. Heil provided the assist to Shirley.

Dyk liked the two goals, but still wasn't pleased with the rest of his team's performance.

"Arambul and Shirley had a couple of nice goals, but the rest was garbage," he said.

The Flyers, who finished runner-up in the Berea Cup, improved to 10-4 on the season, while Clark fell to 5-3-3.

In the junior varsity game, the Cards posted a 1-0 win over the Flyers.

Israel Arambul scored the only goal on an assist from Ethan Varner. Clark had five shots on goal and Ben Harris collected two saves.

"We played pretty well," Clark coach Patrick Fitzgerald said. "Jerod Metz and Matt Reed had a good game in defense. We are making progress, but still need to work on finishing."

Clark's record stands at 7-5 on the season.

Next game: Monday at Mercer County, 7:30 p.m.
