UK Football: Injured Williams will return to game Saturday

September 22, 2008|LARRY VAUGHT

LEXINGTON - Kentucky will get starting offensive tackle Garry Williams back for its game Saturday against Western Kentucky, but coach Rich Brooks was not overly optimistic three other injured starters would play.

Williams, a preseason all-Southeastern Conference selection, missed the last two games because of an ankle injury suffered against Louisville.

"He practiced yesterday and will play," Brooks said Monday. "He will move back into the starting lineup."

Backup quarterback Randall Cobb remains out "indefinitely" with the sprained ankle he suffered in the first half against Middle Tennessee in UK's last game.

Linebacker Micah Johnson and defensive tackle Ricky Lumpkin also sprained ankles in that game and have not returned to practice.

"Micah Johnson and Ricky Lumpkin are doubtful for this week. They are out of the (ankle) boot and can get on their toe and bounce on it, but they both have a lot of pain," Brooks said. "Cobb is not that far along.

"If they get remarkably better in next 48 hours, I would look like an idiot if I said they could not play."

Still, Brooks said it was doubtful that either one could play.

"Randall's injury is clearly more of the four- to six-week variety, though," Brooks said.
