Danville-Boyle EDP hears from fundraising firms

According to Jody Lassiter, president and chief executive officer of the Danville-Boyle County Economic Development Partnership, there's a lot more capital available for economic development in Danville and he aims to explore all available resources.

The EDP is considering a contractual, fee-for-service partnership with a fundraising firm for an eight- to 10-month investment campaign focused on private-sector business in the Danville community.

Lassiter estimated only 33 percent of the EDP's funds currently come from the private sector, while the remaining two-thirds are provided publicly.

EDP's immediate goal is bring that ratio to a 50-50 margin, but Lassiter believes it is possible for private business contributions to eclipse the 75 percent mark.

Wednesday, EDP heard from two potential fundraising partners, STELLAR Fundraising Executives Inc. and Global Advancement LLC.

In August, National Community Development Services gave a presentation.

Each firms would charge $25,000 for the initial feasibility study. After obtaining the results of the study, both STELLAR and NCDS estimated a charge of $25,000 for the campaign, while the Lexington-based Global Advancement would charge EDP $8,000 per month, according to Lassiter.

A decision is expected Oct. 15.
