Church of the Nazarene to celebrate anniversary

The Church of the Nazarene in Winchester will join with 18,000 other Nazarene churches in 151 world areas to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the founding of the denomination on Oct. 5.

Celebrations will take place in Winchester on Oct. 4 at 5:30 p.m. with supper, followed by singing by Acclaim quartet at 7 p.m., and Oct. 5 with a special service at 10 a.m.

The Church of the Nazarene will feature the third sermon in a series celebrating the church's centennial anniversary on Sunday titled "The Church as the Temple of God."

Church to celebrate pastor's anniversary

First Uttingertown Baptist Church, 2911 Royster Road, Lexington, near the Fayette-Clark County line, will celebrate the 26th pastoral anniversary of the Rev. Joseph McDowell on Sept. 28 at the 10:45 a.m. worship service.

Dr. Benjamin Stanley Baker, pastor of New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit and former pastor of Main Street Baptist Church of Lexington will be the guest speaker.

Heritage Baptist Church Cruise-in

The Heritage Baptist Church will sponsor a Cruise-in car show at George Rogers Clark High School Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The show is open to all cars, trucks and motorcycles. Dash plaques will be handed out to the first 100 vehicles. Concessions will be sold and all proceeds will benefit the GRCHS swim team. There will be activities and prizes for children, also.

Judgement House drama at Porter Memorial Baptist Church

Porter Memorial Baptist Church, Lexington, will host Judgement House, a walk-through dramatic presentation. Presentations will be Thursday and Friday Oct. 23-24 from 7 to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday Oct. 25-26 from 3 to 9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but concessions will be sold. Homecoming at Ark of Mercy Church

The Ark of Mercy Church, 240 Winn Ave., will celebrate homecoming this weekend. Special singer Betty Jean Robinson will perform at 6 p.m. today and Sunday at 11 a.m. Dinner on the grounds will be served at noon. Floyd Lawhon will be the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. service and the 6 p.m. service.

High Attendance Day and Church-wide Picnic

Sunday has been designated as High Attendance Day for Sunday School at First Baptist Church, 32 E. Lexington Ave.

Sunday School for all ages is every Sunday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. A time of fellowship is scheduled from 9:45-10 a.m. with light breakfast served in some divisions.

All members, past members and guests are invited to attend this special Sunday and every Sunday.

Nursery service is provided.

The day will conclude with a church-wide picnic at Boonesborough State Park beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Those attending are asked to bring two dishes of their choice; meat, drinks and paper goods are provided.

A brief worship service will take place on the site of the first worship service in the state. The church bus will depart the parking lot at 4:30 p.m. for those who need transportation.

Installation service at First Church of God

First Church of God, 2500 Colby Road, will install its new pastor, Gary Brown, on Sunday at 3 p.m. Bob Russell, retired minister from Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, will be the speaker. A reception will follow in the gym.

Women's Bible Study at First Baptist Church

Joe Ann Dove will facilitate renowned author Phillip Yancey's book "Prayer: Does it Change Anything?" each Monday from Oct. 6 to Nov. 10, 1-3 p.m. Sessions will be at First Baptist Church, 32 East Lexington Ave. All ladies of the community are invited to attend. Interested persons should call the church office at 744-2884. Dr. John E. Owen is church pastor.

Missionary Day at Greater St. James C.M.E. Church

The Greater St. James C.M.E. Church will host Missionary Day Sunday at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. Chrysanthia Carr Seals from Clark United Methodist Church will be speaking. The public is invited to attend.

Homecoming at Christian Baptist Church

Christian Baptist Church will hold a homecoming celebration Sunday at the church, 14 Holly Ave. Services begin at 10:30 a.m. and lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. Brother Tim Christopher will be the speaker and gospel music will be provided by Undivided, Kitty Hurst, Ed Hopper, Bobby Jones and guitarist Wade Bilbrey.

Revival at Pleasasnt Hill Baptist Church

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church will hold a revival Oct. 1-3 at 7 p.m. The guest preacher will be Rev. Marcellous D. Ridgeway, pastor of First Baptist Church, Highland Street in Winchester. Rev. H.K. Taylor Sr. is the host pastor.
