Changes made to police reports

September 29, 2008

Because of the amount of time involved and the amount of space they take up in the paper, beginning today, we will no longer publish minor traffic offenses and other minor violations in the police reports.

The exception is that if a person is charged with a serious traffic incident, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or reckless driving, and also charged with minor violations like not giving a turn signal or running a stop sign, we would then include all offenses listed in the case.

Also, we will no longer publish minor offenses involving alcoholic beverages such as alcohol intoxication or drinking in a public place.

We will also discontinue reporting non-injury accidents unless there are unusual circumstances, such as involving several vehicles or a school bus, or resulting in a road being closed for a considerable length of time.
