Jessamine teams prep for districts

October 08, 2008|Casey Castle

As the regular season winds down in soccer and volleyball, the Jessamine County teams prep for postseason play.

The most interesting matchup appears to be the East and West Jessamine boys soccer teams being matched up in the first round.

The Colts managed to have a strong season without picking up a regular season victory in the district. The Jaguars struggled through the first half of the season before turning it on in the second half.

The Jaguars have won the last two meetings between the two teams, both regular season games.

The winner will face Dunbar, who earned a first-round bye.

The entire district tournament will be held at East Jessamine. Action begins Monday at 6 p.m. with LCA facing Lafayette and East and West will begin at 8 p.m.

The girls soccer district tournament will be hosted by LCA. It will also begin Monday. East Jessamine will face Dunbar in the opening game at 6 p.m. The Jaguars have experienced a tough schedule through a rebuilding year but will still look to make noise in the post season.

West Jessamine's tie with Lexing-ton Catholic gives the Knights the No. 1 seed and the Colts the No. 2 seed. Both teams received a bye. The Colts will meet the winner of the LCA and Lafayette game. They'll be in action Tuesday at 8 p.m.

The volleyball district tournament is decided by a draw and not by record, so the Colts' strong 23-5 showing this season won't give them a leg up. They'll face Lexington Catholic less than a week after losing to the Knights in the regular season finale on the road. But the Colts will be at home as the tournament will be hosted at West. They'll try to keep their record-setting season going with a win.

The Jaguars have had peaks and valleys all season but will come into West with upset on their mind. They'll take on LCA in the opening round. The Jags will play at 6:30 p.m. Monday and the Colts will play at 7:30 p.m.
