BCHS class sets reunion

Boyle County High School Class of 1993 will hold its 15-year reunion from 8-11 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Boyle County Fairgrounds main building. The event is casual and free. For more information, call Amy Bryant Fowler at (859) 319-3339.

Antique workshop set for Thursday

STANFORD - Buying and Selling Antiques 101 will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Lincoln County Extension Service. The cost is $20 and includes lunch. Call (606) 365-2447 to make reservations. Ron Wells of Versailles is the instructor.

Salvation Army plans Christmas sign-ups

The Salvation Army will hold its Christmas sign-ups from 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Monday through Friday and Oct. 20-24 at 519 S. Fourth St.

Dotson attends district judge college

District Judge Jeff Dotson, who serves Boyle and Mercer counties, participated in the 2008 District Judges College hosted Sept. 21-24 in Lexington by the state Administrative Office of the Courts.

District court handles juvenile matters, city and county ordinances, misdemeanors, traffic offenses, probates of will, felony preliminary hearings, small claims and civil cases involving $4,000 or less. District judges serve four-year terms.

Thomas S. Hodson, professor and director of E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, taught a session on media relations that explored the tension that often exists between journalists and the courts and methods for working effectively with the media.

Rita Ruggles, program administrator for the state's Department of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Addiction Services, and several judges presented a session on medications associated with mental health issues.

Event to focus on domestic violence

Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program expects nearly 100 volunteers to gather Friday in downtown Lexington to carry umbrellas and bring attention to the International Violence Against Women Act.

Participants will gather from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Cheapside Park to learn more about the legislation and begin an "umbrella walk" throughout downtown. From 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., they will pass out literature and invite people to sign a letter supporting the legislation.

Prizes will be given for the best decorated umbrella and the one with the best message.

Casey County Board of Education - 7 p.m. Monday at Liberty Elementary School. The agenda includes an update on construction projects, staff reports, superintendent's report, consideration of school bus purchases, and performance assessment reports.

Danville Recycling Committee - 9 a.m. Monday at city hall.

Boyle County Middle School council - 3:45 p.m. Monday in the library media center.

Lincoln County Board of Education - 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the central office board room. The agenda includes reports from the treasurer, presentation from Family Connections Family Resource Center, student recognition, superintendent's report, and an executive session to discuss contracts.
